The CIL Gold Processing Plant is designed to maximize gold recovery from fine-ground gold ore. This plant employs a series of intensive measures tailored to the unique characteristics of gold and sulfide minerals found in the ore. Sulfide minerals, which are partially soluble in cyanide solutions, can hinder the cyanide-leaching process. To mitigate this, the pulp undergoes air blasting pretreatment, reducing the impact of sulfide minerals on the gold recovery process.
During the cyanidation leaching phase, the leaching efficiency is optimized by carefully controlling the mass fractions of dissolved oxygen, lead nitrate, and sodium cyanide in the finely ground ore. The African Gold Concentrator Project by Desen Mining utilizes a carbon-in-leach (CIL) method, where activated carbon is added directly to the leaching tanks. This method allows for simultaneous leaching and adsorption, enhancing gold recovery.

The process involves four main stages: preparation of the leaching pulp, cyanide leaching, activated carbon adsorption, and desorption of gold-loaded carbon. The resulting gold mud is processed, and the de-gold carbon is recycled through seven stages of leaching. This method achieves a gold recovery rate of up to 92.5%, with a daily processing capacity of 500 tons.
The CIL method offers several advantages over the carbon-in-pulp (CIP) method. While CIP requires a longer processing time, CIL benefits from a larger carbon storage capacity and lower carbon concentration. Additionally, the amount of pulp transported in CIL is significantly higher than in CIP. The distribution of backlogged metal also differs between the two processes; in CIP, the metal is evenly distributed between the activated carbon and the solution, whereas in CIL, the metal primarily accumulates on the activated carbon.

Furthermore, the gold content in the solution varies between the two methods. The CIL process, combined with adsorption and immersion, maintains a constant and relatively high gold content in the solution. In contrast, the CIP process, which relies on single adsorption, results in a lower gold grade due to the minimal amount of gold dissolved in the solution.
CIL Gold Processing Plant by Desen Mining offers an efficient and effective solution for gold recovery, leveraging advanced techniques to optimize leaching and adsorption processes, ultimately achieving high recovery rates and increased processing capacity.
