Zircon sand beneficiation involves removing impurity minerals from raw zircon ore to increase the zircon content and improve product quality. Modern zircon processing typically uses a composite beneficiation system combining gravity separation, flotation, magnetic separation, and electric separation.

The main goal is to purify zircon by removing gangue minerals such as quartz, feldspar, biotite, ilmenite, garnet, rutile, and monazite.

Zircon Sand Gravity Separation

Gravity separation is the most widely used method for initial roughing of zircon placer deposits. Zircon has a relatively high density, making gravity equipment highly effective for separating light gangue minerals.

  • Ideal for seaside and placer zircon ores with low zircon content
  • Removes quartz, feldspar, biotite, and other light impurities
  • Common gravity equipment: jig concentrators, shaking tables, spiral chutes

 

Zircon Sand Flotation

Flotation is used for separating fine impurities and gangue minerals associated with zircon. Chemical reagents and flotation systems are selected based on the ore composition.

  • Collectors: Fatty acids
  • Regulators: Sodium carbonate
  • Inhibitors: Sodium silicate
  • Activators: Sodium sulfide, heavy metal salts
