1. What is the purpose of the thickener?
The thickener is a kind of dehydration machinery.It is generally used for concentrate concentration and tailings dewatering before filtering. The use of thickeners for tailings dewatering is mainly for the use of circulating water and to facilitate the storage of tailings in the tailings dam.In addition, in order to improve the technical operation process, if the slurry is too thin and the operating conditions require denser materials, concentration is also required.Therefore, the thickener is one of the indispensable dehydration equipment in the production process of the beneficiation process.

2. What factors affect the production capacity of the thickener?
The unit production capacity of a thickener refers to the number of tons of materials processed per day and night per unit of thickening area of the thickener, namely ton/m² day. The main factors affecting production capacity are as follows:
1) Concentration of ore supply and discharge,
2) The particle size composition of the ore,
3) The viscosity of the foam in the slurry,
4) The presence of agents and electrolytes,
5) Pulp temperature,
6) The value of concentrated materials.
When concentrating flotation concentrate, the unit production capacity is generally 0.5-1.0 ton/m²·day. The concentration of the pulp fed into the thickener is usually 15-30%, and the concentration of the pulp discharged after concentration is generally 50-60%, and sometimes it can be higher up to 70%.

3. How to prevent metal loss when concentrating flotation concentrate?
When thickening the flotation concentrate, because the slurry has a large amount of foam, it often brings difficulties to the operation of the thickener, making the overflow turbid, and causing a large amount of metal loss in the overflow. Therefore, these foams should be removed before concentration. There are several ways to eliminate foam:
1) When the pulp enters the thickening tank, spray wine with high-pressure water to eliminate the foam;
2) Use the rotation of the centrifugal pump impeller to break up the bubbles;
3) Install a retaining ring parallel to the overflow groove in the thickening tank (the upper weir of the retaining ring is slightly higher than the overflow groove, and the lower edge is immersed in the liquid surface) to block the foam, and add chemicals to prompt the foam to burst quickly.
